Oundle Town Rowing Club enjoyed a strong weekend of racing at Peterborough Summer Regatta, with the juniors competing on Saturday 30th May and the Masters squad racing on Sunday 31st May over the 1,000m course.
The junior squad produced an excellent performance in the J16 double sculls semi-final, finishing third in a highly competitive race. Bewl Bridge took the win in 3:50, Leeds finished second in 3:55, and Oundle crossed the line just one second behind in 3:56.

It was a cracking race from start to finish. Bewl Bridge had just enough to stay ahead, but Leeds and OTRC fought hard all the way down the course, with second place changing hands several times. Leeds found a little extra power in the closing stages, but Oundle were right in the mix and came incredibly close to reaching the final.
With six crews entered and only around 15 seconds separating the fastest and slowest crews, it was an event where every boat was in contention. From OTRC’s point of view, it was an especially promising result, with Aiden racing in his first ever regatta and George rowing a year above his age group. Both showed real composure and determination under race pressure.
On Sunday, the club’s Masters squad continued the strong weekend with an excellent win in the Men’s Masters G 8+, completing the 1,000m course in 3:43.6. The crew delivered a controlled and committed row, showing the benefit of consistent training and good crew preparation.

Peter has a bit of a mishap half way down the race course, coming off his seat and managing to row arms only the entire rest of the course!
It was a successful weekend all round for OTRC, with both juniors and Masters representing the club strongly at Peterborough. The junior result shows real promise for future regattas, while the Masters victory was a well-earned reward for the squad’s hard work.
Well done to everyone who raced, coached, supported and helped with the organisation across the weekend.
